Wear Factors
We've been pleased at the low wear rates encountered on high hour engines. Typical rates are shown below and have been established after 1000 hour engine life. They have been obtained over many engine inspections.

Average cylinder diameter wear from 0.01—0.02mm
Oil pumps are good for 3000—4000 hours.
Valve guide wear from 0.01—0.02mm
Valve stem wear from 0.00mm—0.01mm
Crank journals from 0.000mm—0.005mm
(2000hrs)
Ring end gap almost doubles in 1000hours

Wheel Rims
Jabiru now have available all new heavy duty Aluminium wheel rims. They are ideally suited to the larger aircraft the J200 & J400. The new rims will be retro-fit so they are able to be fitted to existing aircraft. They are easier to change and will take half the time as there are only 4 bolts to undo. Unfortunately, these rims are currently only available for the J series aircraft.

It is important to check your steel rims every 250 hours as these can suffer fatigue if tyre pressures have been allowed to get low.

Wheel Axles/ Spindles
These should be replaced if you have the misfortune to have a hard landing. New types have a fillet where the cross-section changes diameter. J400's must be upgraded to the new type before 250hrs and the 2 seaters before 2500hrs.
